Just back from an amazing weekend away with the boys in Innerleithen in Scotland for round 3 of the Alpine bikes winter league race. Up early on Friday morning to drive up north and get the ferry off to Scotland, arriving at the track at about 5 o clock Friday evening we decided to walk the track before it got dark.
The track looked amazing having abit of everything in it been steep, tight and tech at the top to being pedally in the middle and some jumps towards the end. After seeing this i was really eager to do some runs with Dan and Kipper on Saturday practice.
Saturday morning and I awoke the see it was lashing rain out side which i was not to pleased about but there was nothing i could do, after getting a few runs down the track i started to feel comfortable, really liking the track. Managed to get five full runs in on Saturday and sectioned a few bits at this point feeling confident for race day.
I woke up early on Sunday morning the see the mountain behind the house we were staying in covered in snow and didn't no what to expect. Got a big breakfast in and headed down to the track not knowing if it was still going ahead or if it was canceled due to the weather but thankfully it was still going ahead all the track was in good condition with lots of grip from the rain during the night. Headed up for one run before my race runs started and felt that run was the best i had done all weekend.
Got my stuff together for race runs cleaned the bike and headed up for my first run, had quite a good run apart from a little mistake at the top but wasn't much to worry about, got to the end and went into the hot seat and stayed there being in the lead just under 20 second from 2nd place. My second run was slightly slower as the track had been more beaten up but i still felt like i had a good run and my time from my previous run was still fast enough to keep top spot taking the win by just under 20 seconds.
It was a great weekend away riding with the lads and a good weekends racing. Next race will the the first Irish IDMS in rostrever at the end of March.
